Quick answer
For a gift you won't find in a mall, head to Moufflon Bookshop on Faneromeni Street and the Chrysaliniotissa Crafts Centre in old Nicosia, the Diatehnon ceramics workshop in Limassol's old town, The Place next to the covered market in Paphos, or Savvas Pottery in Koloni, which has made hand-painted ceramics since 1976. In the villages, Lefkara sells lace and silver, Omodos sells its own lace, and Kornos keeps the island's red clay pottery alive. Most of these are small, family-run places with short hours, so check before you drive and shop on weekdays.
- Moufflon Bookshop, Faneromeni Street 44, Nicosia, has sold books on Cyprus since 1967: maps, history, art and Cypriot literature in translation, open Monday to Friday 10:00–18:00 and Saturday 10:00–16:00.
- The Chrysaliniotissa Crafts Centre in old Nicosia has eight craft workshops around a courtyard; it opens Monday to Friday 10:00–17:00 and Saturday 10:00–13:00, so call before you go.
- Savvas Pottery in Koloni, Paphos, hand-paints lemon, olive and pomegranate designs, takes custom orders and ships worldwide.
- In Lefkara, Rouvis Lace and Silver is a family workshop open 9:00–18:00, with new and vintage lace.
- Small local brands make good stocking fillers: CP Herbalist's plant-based skincare is handmade in Cyprus, with a face oil at about €36 (2026).
The best Christmas presents in Cyprus often come from the smallest shops: a potter's studio in a Paphos village, a family lace workshop in Lefkara, a bookshop in old Nicosia that has sold maps of the island for almost 60 years. This guide goes district by district through small, local and family-run places where you can find something with a story, with what to buy, where, and a practical tip for each.

Before you go: how to shop small in Cyprus
- Check the hours. Craft shops and workshops keep short hours, and many close on Sundays and on Wednesday or Saturday afternoons. Call before a long drive.
- Bring cash. Card machines are common, but not in every village workshop.
- Ask who made it. In tourist areas, imported souvenirs sit next to local work. Makers are happy to tell you about a piece, and that story is half the gift.
- Order early for anything personalised. Custom pieces and engraving take time, and the last fortnight before Christmas is the busiest.
- Shops close early on Christmas Eve. They must shut by 18:00 on 24 December and stay closed on 25 December.
Nicosia
Moufflon Bookshop, Faneromeni Street
Opposite Faneromeni Church in the old town, at Faneromeni Street 44, Moufflon has sold books since 1967. Its speciality is Cyprus: archaeology, architecture, history, old maps, art books and Cypriot fiction, with its most loved shelf of Cypriot literature in translation. Most of the stock is in English, with Greek and a few other languages, and it sells new, used, rare and out-of-print titles, plus artworks and maps. It opens Monday to Friday 10:00–18:00 and Saturday 10:00–16:00 (phone 22 665155).
Tip: an old map of the person's town or village, framed, makes a lasting present for anyone who has made Cyprus home. For children's books, see our toy shops guide.
Chrysaliniotissa Crafts Centre
In the quiet Chrysaliniotissa quarter of the old town, this municipal crafts centre on Dimonaktos Street is built like a traditional inn: eight workshops around a central courtyard, where makers apply traditional crafts in new ways, plus a coffee shop. It opens Monday to Friday 10:00–17:00 and Saturday 10:00–13:00, and closes on Sundays and public holidays. Call first on 22 347465 or 99 556250, as individual workshops may be closed.
Tip: combine it with a walk through the old town's lanes and a coffee in the courtyard.
Leventis Municipal Museum shop, Laiki Geitonia
The city museum at Ippokratous 17 in Laiki Geitonia is free to enter, and its shop sells publications and museum memorabilia, with the proceeds going to the collections. It works mainly with Cypriot designers and makers, with pieces inspired by the museum's objects, such as woven textiles and ceramics. Tip: a book on Nicosia's history from here is a good gift for a newcomer.
More in the capital
- Cyprus Handicraft Centre, Athalassas Avenue 186, Strovolos: the government's showroom for lace, weaving, basketry, woodcarving, pottery and silver, open on weekdays and Saturday mornings. It is covered in our local products and souvenirs guide.
- CP Herbalist, Mall of Cyprus: plant-based skincare, haircare and body products, all handmade in Cyprus by a brand founded in 2018 by herbalist Chrystallena Poulli. Its Original Face Oil costs about €36 (2026). Tip: a good choice for Secret Santa or a teacher's present.
Limassol
Diatehnon, old town
Diatehnon is a working ceramics studio at Kanari 32, by the old municipal market in Limassol's old town. Alongside classes from wheel-throwing to sgraffito, it makes art gifts and ceramic design pieces. Contact 99 363402 or diatehnon@gmail.com. Tip: ask what is ready to buy and what can be made to order, or give a private session as the present.
Kypwell, 28th October Avenue
This Cypriot skincare and wellness brand makes organic, vegan skincare and herbal teas, and runs a face wellness studio at 353, 28th October Avenue (Olympic Residences Block B, shop 4). It sells gift vouchers from €50 to €1,000, sent by email, or by post within Cyprus at no charge if you ask at checkout. Tip: pair a voucher with a box of its herbal tea.
CP Herbalist on Wolt
If you can't get to the shop, CP Herbalist also sells in Limassol through Wolt, so you can have a face oil or body product delivered the same day.
Katerina Homemade Sweets, Doros
On the main Limassol–Troodos road near Lania, this workshop has made spoon sweets, jams, syrups and liqueurs without preservatives since 1992. Gift boxes cost about €15 to €22 (2026), and it sells glazed fruit and almond paste for your own Christmas cake. Tip: call ahead on 25 432000 and stop on your way up to the mountain Christmas Villages.
For Limassol's fashion and boutique streets, see our fashion and boutique shopping guide.
Larnaca
The art workshops neighbourhood
The lanes south of Saint Lazarus Church form Larnaca's art workshops quarter, with ceramists, painters and sculptors working in small studios on Akteniz, Bozkurt and Mehmet Ali streets. Among them are Flamma Arts (8 Akteniz Street) and the studios of several visual artists; Studio Ceramics and Emira Pottery also teach, as covered in our original gift ideas guide. Most studios have no fixed shop hours, so phone first; some open by appointment only. Tip: a hand-thrown bowl or a small painting from the artist's own studio costs less than you'd expect and travels well in a suitcase.
Kornos Coop Pottery
The Larnaca district village of Kornos is known for red clay pottery shaped by hand on a low foot-powered wheel, a craft on Cyprus's UNESCO list of intangible cultural heritage. The Kornos Coop Pottery is the only workshop still working there. Today's pieces are mostly decorative: fruit bowls, vases and small jugs. Tip: traditional jugs keep water cool; ask the potters which pieces are for use and which are for show.
Paphos
The Place, by the covered market
At Constantinou Kanari 56, next to the covered municipal market, The Place sells handmade work by local makers: jewellery, glass, leather sandals, herbs, sweets and wines from nearby wineries, with makers working on site and a small café. It opens on weekdays from 9:15, until 18:00 on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday and until 14:00 on Wednesday and Saturday, and closes on Sunday (phone 26 101955). Tip: go on a market morning and do your food shopping in the same trip.
Savvas Pottery, Koloni
Founded in 1976 by Savvas Georgiades and his son Panicos, Savvas Pottery at Archbishop Makarios III Avenue 129 in Koloni makes hand-painted kitchenware, vases and wall pieces. The classic designs feature lemons, olives, grapes and birds of paradise; the contemporary range includes black-and-white, Camelia Blue and pomegranate patterns. It takes custom orders and ships worldwide. Open Monday to Friday 10:00–19:00 and Saturday 10:00–14:00. Tip: a lemon jug is a cheerful present for family in a colder country.
Lemba Pottery, run by two ceramicists in Lemba village, also sells its signed pieces; its classes are in our original gift ideas guide.
Famagusta district
The choice is smaller here. Aura's Workshop in Paralimni pours candles and makes soaps and small keepsakes; its gift sets are in our Christmas hampers guide. Deryneia, the district's Christmas Village, has stalls of local products and crafts at weekends from 21 November 2026.
Village workshops: Lefkara, Omodos and the Troodos
Lefkara lace and silver
Pano Lefkara is the home of lefkaritiko lace and filigree silver. Rouvis Lace and Silver is run by Michael and Toula Rouvis and their son Demos, a family of lace makers who sell folded lace, from new pieces to vintage ones (open 9:00–18:00; phone 24 342559). The Local Museum of Traditional Embroidery and Silversmith Work shows what fine work looks like before you buy. Tip: hand-stitched lace takes weeks to make and is priced accordingly; if a "Lefkara" tablecloth seems cheap, ask who made it. Lefkara is also a Christmas Village from 21 November 2026, and the Lefkara Handicraft Centre is in our Christmas gifts from Cyprus guide.
Omodos lace
High in the Limassol wine villages, Omodos has its own lace, known locally as ploumi. Boutiques and workshops around the stone-paved square sell tablecloths and handkerchiefs, often with demonstrations, alongside ceramics, embroidery, silverware, sweets and handmade jewellery. Tip: go on a weekday morning, before the coaches arrive.
More village stops
Agros (rose products), Kakopetria and Kalopanagiotis are all Christmas Villages this season, with local makers' stalls; see our Christmas Villages guide for days and drive times.
Christmas markets for local makers
Town and mall Christmas markets add stalls of handmade gifts in December. Dates, places and hours are in our Christmas events and markets guide.
