Quick answer

Cyprus public schools close for Christmas from Thursday 24 December 2026 to Wednesday 6 January 2027 (primary schools from 23 December), and many private schools break up earlier, on 18 or 21 December. Because 25 and 26 December, 1 January and 6 January are public holidays, the break leaves only about six normal weekdays for camps: 28 to 31 December and 4 to 5 January. Christmas programmes are smaller than summer camps and are mostly short sessions: in 2025 they included Young Engineers STEM workshops in Paphos, CVAR museum workshops in Nicosia and Christmas Village activities across the island. Most 2026 dates are published only in late November or December.

  • Public school Christmas holidays 2026–27: 24 December 2026 to 6 January 2027 (secondary circular); primary schools close from 23 December. Pupils return on Thursday 7 January 2027.
  • Private and British-curriculum schools often break up on 18 or 21 December, so their pupils need cover for a few days before most Christmas camps start.
  • Public holidays on 25 and 26 December, 1 January and 6 January (Epiphany) cut the break into short weeks; most camps run only 28–31 December and 4–5 January.
  • In 2025 Young Engineers in Paphos ran two-hour Christmas STEM workshops for ages 6–11 at €20 each, and CVAR in Nicosia ran eight Greek-language workshops at €10 per child.
  • Expect 2026 programmes to appear on providers' websites and social media from late November; check 2026 dates on each provider's site before planning.

Cyprus public schools close for Christmas from 24 December 2026 to 6 January 2027, but with four public holidays inside that fortnight, a Christmas camp in Cyprus usually means a handful of short sessions between Christmas and New Year and in the first days of January. Below we show which days you actually need to cover, and which providers in Limassol, Paphos, Nicosia, Larnaca and Famagusta ran Christmas programmes in 2025.

Last checked: 25 October 2026. Christmas programmes are usually announced in late November or December, so most 2026 dates are not out yet. Everything below is labelled by year: check 2026 dates on each provider's site before you plan around it.

When are the Christmas school holidays in Cyprus in 2026?

The Ministry of Education's circular of 18 August 2026 gives Thursday 24 December 2026 to Wednesday 6 January 2027 as the Christmas holiday for public secondary schools. The Ministry's standing rules for public primary schools close them a day earlier, from 23 December. Both go back on Thursday 7 January 2027.

Private and international schools set their own calendars, and many break up earlier. On their published 2026–27 term dates, Foley's School in Limassol closes from 21 December to 8 January, TLC Private School in Paphos from 21 December to 6 January, The Junior & Senior School in Nicosia from 21 December to 5 January, and St John's School at Episkopi ends term on 18 December. If your children are at a British-curriculum school, you may need cover from 21 to 23 December, before most Christmas camps begin.

Which days do you really need childcare over Christmas?

This is where Christmas differs from Easter or summer. The public holidays and the way the dates fall in 2026–27 leave very few full camp days:

Dates What happens Camps likely?
Mon 21 – Wed 23 Dec 2026 Many private schools already closed; public schools still open (primary closes 23 Dec) A few, mainly for private-school pupils
Thu 24 Dec Christmas Eve, not a public holiday, but many businesses close early Morning sessions at best
Fri 25 – Sun 27 Dec Christmas Day and 26 December are public holidays, then the weekend No
Mon 28 – Wed 30 Dec Normal working days Main camp days
Thu 31 Dec New Year's Eve, many places close early Morning sessions at best
Fri 1 – Sun 3 Jan 2027 New Year's Day (public holiday), then the weekend Rare (a few Saturday sessions)
Mon 4 – Tue 5 Jan Normal working days Main camp days
Wed 6 Jan Epiphany, a public holiday No
Thu 7 Jan Public schools reopen —

In practice, that is about six weekdays: 28 to 31 December and 4 to 5 January. Many working parents in Cyprus combine a few camp mornings with leave, grandparents or swapping days with other families. Plan this before booking flights or leave, because some Christmas sessions fill within days.

What kinds of Christmas camps are there in Cyprus?

Full-week, full-day Christmas camps are rare in Cyprus. What you will mostly find:

  • STEM and robotics workshopsBooked per session, usually two hours.
  • Museum and art workshopsTypically 90 minutes, low-cost and often in Greek.
  • School-based holiday clubs at some private schools, often for their own pupils first.
  • Free family activities at foundations, municipalities and the official Christmas Villages.
  • Sports academiesWhich mostly pause for Christmas; ask your child's club whether it runs extra training days in the break.

Weather shapes everything. December and January are the coolest, wettest months in Cyprus, and it gets dark around 5pm, so most Christmas programmes are indoors and in the morning. Outdoor football or tennis sessions can be cancelled at short notice after heavy rain.

Which Christmas camps and workshops run in Paphos?

  • Young Engineers Cyprus South/West, a STEM franchise based at Ampelokipon 4 in Paphos (opposite the Cyprus University of Technology building) and also covering Limassol, ran Christmas Workshops for ages 6–11 over the 2025–26 holidays. Each workshop lasted two hours and cost €20 (2025), with one session per child per day and a maximum of three per child. Sessions ran on 19 and 20 December, 22–24 December, 29–31 December, Saturday 3 January and Monday 5 January, with mornings from 9:00 and some afternoons from 14:00. Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve had morning sessions only. Bookings were made on an online form. Its website also mentions summer and winter camps, booked through its Workshops page.
  • Masters Football Camps at Aphrodite Hills run October half-term, Easter and summer weeks for ages 5–16, but no Christmas week was listed when we checked. The next weeks shown are 26–30 October 2026 and 5–9 April 2027.

Which Christmas camps and workshops run in Nicosia?

Nicosia has the strongest programme of Christmas workshops, though mostly in Greek.

  • CVAR, the Severis Foundation's Centre of Visual Arts and Research in old Nicosia ran Festive Moments 2025 from 6 December 2025 to 3 January 2026: eight creative workshops mixing art, history and play based on its collection, at €10 per child (2025), in Greek. One example was a tin-soldier treasure hunt and craft workshop for ages 6–12 on Christmas Eve, from 11:00 to 12:30. CVAR is closed on Mondays, and bookings were taken by phone and email.
  • The Bank of Cyprus Cultural Foundation held a free family painting and oral storytelling morning in Greek on Saturday 20 December 2025, with booking required.
  • Engino STEM Centre in Aglantzia runs weekly STEM workshops for ages 4 to 13+. We found no Christmas programme online, so ask the centre whether it opens holiday days in 2026.

Which Christmas camps and workshops run in Limassol?

  • Little Scientists teaches science in English to children aged about 5–12 and has a dedicated Christmas School page on its website, alongside its Easter and Summer Schools. We could not confirm the 2025 dates or price, so check the page or contact them in November.
  • Young Engineers (above) also covers Limassol; its Christmas workshops in 2025 were held in Paphos, so ask whether a Limassol venue is planned for 2026.
  • Engino STEM Centre on Kolonakiou Street in Agios Athanasios has the same weekly programme as Nicosia; again, ask about Christmas days.

Which Christmas activities run in Larnaca and Famagusta district?

We found no dedicated Christmas day camps in Larnaca or the Famagusta district (Ayia Napa, Paralimni and Protaras) online for 2025, so families there mostly rely on short activities:

  • The official Christmas Villages listed by Visit Cyprus include Lefkara, where the 2025 Christmas Village ran children's activities and craft workshops until 6 January, and Kiti, which had children's activities on several December dates including 26 to 28 December.
  • At Ayia Napa Marina's Christmas Village, the entertainment company Mickey Mania ran craft workshops for children on Christmas Eve 2025, at 11:00 and 14:00.

It is also worth asking your child's school, swimming club or dance studio: many run informal holiday mornings that are advertised only to their own families.

What does a Christmas camp day look like?

Most Christmas sessions in Cyprus are short. A STEM workshop typically lasts two hours, with children building and programming a model in small groups; a museum workshop lasts around 90 minutes, usually a gallery game followed by a craft to take home. Where a provider runs a longer half-day, expect drop-off around 8:00–9:00 and pick-up around 13:00, with a snack break. Ask whether parents must stay nearby, as some foundation and village workshops are designed for families rather than drop-off.

How do you book a Christmas camp in Cyprus?

  1. Mark the real dates. Note your school's last day and the six main camp days (28–31 December, 4–5 January).
  2. Watch from mid-November. Follow the providers above on their websites and social media; Christmas programmes are often announced only three or four weeks ahead.
  3. Book per session if you can. Young Engineers in 2025, for example, used an online form where you picked individual sessions.
  4. Check the language. Museum and municipal workshops are usually in Greek; STEM and private-school programmes are more often in English.
  5. Confirm closures. Ask what happens on 24 and 31 December, and whether a session is cancelled if too few children sign up.

What should children pack for a winter camp?

  • Warm layers: a fleece or hoodie over a T-shirt, as halls and studios can be cold first thing.
  • A waterproof jacket, and spare socks if any part of the day is outdoors.
  • Indoor trainers with clean soles for sports halls.
  • A water bottle and a healthy snack (most short sessions do not include food).
  • Clothes that can get messy for art and craft workshops.
  • Name labels on everything, especially identical school-issue jumpers.

Before you book, it is fair to ask any provider whether its staff hold the police certificate that Cypriot law (Law 91(I)/2014) requires for people working regularly with children, who is trained in first aid, and how pick-up is controlled.

What to do next

  1. Check your own school's Christmas dates, and see our guide to enrolling your child in a public school for how the public system works.
  2. For wet days in the break, see rainy day activities with kids and indoor soft play and playgrounds.
  3. Fill the rest of the holidays with Christmas markets in Cyprus and arts, crafts and pottery workshops for kids.
  4. Read up on winter weather in Cyprus so your children are dressed for it.

Frequently asked questions

When are the Christmas holidays in Cyprus schools in 2026?

Public secondary schools close from Thursday 24 December 2026 to Wednesday 6 January 2027, and the standing rules for public primary schools set 23 December to 6 January. Pupils go back on Thursday 7 January 2027. Private schools set their own dates, often from 18 or 21 December.

Are there Christmas camps for kids in Cyprus?

Yes, but far fewer than in summer. Most are short STEM, art or museum sessions rather than full-week day camps, and they usually run between Christmas and New Year and in the first days of January. In 2025 examples included Young Engineers in Paphos and CVAR in Nicosia.

Are Christmas camps in Cyprus in English?

Some are. STEM franchises and private schools often teach in English, while museum and municipal workshops are usually in Greek. Always ask which language a session runs in before booking, especially for younger children.

How much do Christmas workshops for kids cost in Cyprus?

As published for the 2025–26 holidays, Young Engineers in Paphos charged €20 per two-hour workshop and CVAR in Nicosia charged €10 per child per workshop. Some foundation and Christmas Village activities were free. 2026 prices had not been published in October 2026.

Are camps open between Christmas and New Year in Cyprus?

Yes, that is when most Christmas sessions run. Expect closures on 25 and 26 December, 1 January and 6 January, and shorter hours or no sessions on 24 and 31 December. Young Engineers in Paphos, for example, ran morning-only sessions on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve in 2025.

What should children wear to a winter camp in Cyprus?

Layers. Indoor halls and studios can be chilly in the morning, and outdoor sessions can be cold and wet in December and January. Pack a warm top, a waterproof jacket, indoor trainers, a water bottle and a snack.
