Quick answer

The best markets in Cyprus are the covered municipal markets in Larnaca, Nicosia, Limassol and Paphos, plus weekly open-air farmers' markets such as Nicosia's Ochi market (Wednesdays and Saturdays), the Strovolos market (Fridays) and Germasogeia (Saturdays). Limassol also has flea markets and a car-boot sale. Most markets start early and are busiest in the morning, and Saturday is the big market day almost everywhere.

  • Limassol's market hall was built in 1918, in the early years of British rule, and reopened as the Limassol Agora in 2020.
  • Larnaca's original municipal market ran from 1928 to 1963; the new market on the same site opened in March 2023, with a design inspired by the round houses of Neolithic Choirokoitia.
  • Nicosia's Ochi open-air market is held on Wednesdays and Saturdays and is moving for about seven months in 2026 to the car park next to the Podocataro bastion.
  • Producers' markets such as Strovolos operate under a 2013 law, and stallholders need certification from the Department of Agriculture.
  • Nicosia's municipal markets are open daily except Sundays and public holidays.

Markets are one of the best ways to shop like a local in Cyprus: seasonal fruit and vegetables straight from the villages, halloumi, olives and bread, and in some places antiques and second-hand finds. Here are ten markets worth knowing, from restored municipal market halls to weekly open-air farmers' markets. Days and hours below are as published at the time of writing (October 2026); they change with the seasons, so check before a long drive.

Its roof, with circular skylights, is inspired by the round dwellings of the Neolithic settlement of Choirokoitia. Where: in Larnaca's commercial centre, a few metres from the new Zouchouri square. Hours: Monday to Saturday, 07:00–19:00 from March to October and 07:00–18:00 from November to February. The open-air Saturday farmers' market in the yard runs 06:00–13:30. Days and hours: Wednesdays until 16:00 (1 October to 31 March) or 17:00 (1 April to 30 September), and Saturdays until 16:00. Did you know? The name Bayraktar comes from a Turkish word for a war banner; tradition says the first Ottoman flag was raised here in 1570.
