Quick answer
You get a Cyprus tax number (TIN, also called TIC) by registering online with the Tax Department through the Tax For All portal, logging in with CY Login. You upload ID and proof of your residence status, such as a yellow slip or pink slip, and the number is emailed to you once approved. Registration is free.
- Since 8 January 2024, registration requests are accepted online only, through Tax For All.
- Since 22 August 2025, you log in to Tax For All with a CY Login account.
- Residents upload ID plus proof of status: yellow slip (EU), pink slip or residence permit (non-EU).
- From the 2026 tax year, all tax residents aged 25 or over must be registered.
- There is no government fee to register.
A Cyprus tax number is one of the first things you will need after moving here, whether you are employed, self-employed, buying property or simply resident. Registration is free and done entirely online.
What is a Cyprus TIN or TIC?
Your Tax Identification Number (TIN), also called a Tax Identification Code (TIC), is the number the Tax Department uses to identify you. You need it to file tax returns, for your employer's payroll, for bank account checks under international reporting rules, and for property transactions.
Who needs a Cyprus tax number?
- Employees and the self-employed with income in Cyprus.
- Pensioners who are Cyprus tax resident and receive income from abroad.
- Property buyers and landlords.
- All tax residents aged 25 or over, from the 2026 tax year. Under the 2026 tax reform, they must register and file a return even if they have no income. People with no income in 2026 and 2027 who are not yet registered have until 31 December 2027.
- Some non-residents, for example if they own property in Cyprus.
What documents do you need?
Have clear scans or photos ready before you start. The Tax Department generally asks for:
| Your situation | What to upload |
|---|---|
| Cypriot citizen | ID card |
| EU/EEA citizen living in Cyprus | Passport or ID card, plus registration certificate (MEU1, the "yellow slip") |
| UK national with Withdrawal Agreement rights | Passport, plus your residence document |
| Other non-EU national living in Cyprus | Passport, plus residence permit ("pink slip") or Alien Registration Certificate |
| Non-resident | Official document from your home country showing your tax or ID number, a photo and a short letter explaining why you need a Cyprus TIN |
If you are employed, an employment contract or employer letter can also help. If you have just arrived and your residence permit is still being processed, check with the Tax Department what it will accept. Our guide to residency permits explains the yellow and pink slips.
How do you register? Step by step
1. Create a CY Login account
Since 22 August 2025, Tax For All uses CY Login, the government's single sign-on (formerly Ariadne). Create your account on the CY Login website first.
2. Log in to Tax For All
Go to the Tax For All portal and log in with CY Login. Confirm your email address if prompted.
3. Start a new registration
Choose Register as a new taxpayer, then the option to register an individual. Fill in your personal details, address and contact information. Declare any income you receive from abroad, as leaving this out can cause problems later.
4. Upload your documents and submit
Attach the documents for your situation and submit the request. You can track it in the portal.
5. Receive your number
When the request is approved, the Tax Department emails you your TIN and links it to your Tax For All account. Credentials for TAXISnet, the older system still used for some returns, are sent separately.
How long does it take and does it cost anything?
Registration is free. The Tax Department does not publish a processing target. It is often a matter of days to a few weeks, and it can take longer in busy periods such as the months before a filing deadline. The portal also has occasional maintenance shutdowns, so check its announcements first.
Common problems
- Wrong documents: blurry scans or an expired permit are the most common reasons for delays.
- Name mismatches: use your name exactly as it appears in your passport.
- CY Login trouble: the Tax For All technical support line is 17700; it helps with access, not tax questions.
- Leaving it late: your employer needs your TIN for payroll, and banks may ask for it when you open an account.
What to do next
- Give your TIN to your employer, bank and accountant.
- Register for social insurance if you are working.
- Check whether you count as a Cyprus tax resident.
- Learn how to file your tax return.
- Tick it off on our moving checklist.
