Christmas Lights and Tree Lightings in Cyprus 2026: Dates by Town and Mall, and Where to See the Best Lights

The switching-on of the Christmas lights is how the festive season starts in Cyprus. Every town, marina and mall holds its own lighting, usually on a weekend evening in late November, with carols, children's shows and, often, Santa. This guide lists every lighting confirmed for 2026 by date, marks the towns still to announce, and picks the best places to see the lights once they are on.

What is confirmed for 2026: when we checked on 5 November 2026, Metropolis Mall, the Four Seasons, Limassol Marina, the Mall of Cyprus, Paralimni, UNIC, Larnaca Municipality and the Kalopanagiotis and Kyperounta Christmas Villages had announced dates. Nicosia, Limassol municipality, Paphos and Ayia Napa had not, so for them we give the 2025 date as a guide, clearly marked, and will add the 2026 date as soon as it is out.

All of these are free to attend. Food, drinks and rides at the markets that go with them cost extra.

Nicosia

Mall of Cyprus, Sunday 22 November, 17:30. The mall lights its decorations on the Christmas Market stage on the first-floor car park, after singer Marseaux plays at 17:00; children's activities run in the mall and at the market over the opening weekend of 21–22 November.

UNIC, Friday 27 November, 18:00. The University of Nicosia opens its Christmas Spirit week with a tree lighting, seasonal music and free festive refreshments, followed by its Christmas Village.

Kalopanagiotis, Saturday 21 November, 18:00. In the Marathasa valley, about 1 hour 15 minutes from Nicosia, the Fairytale Christmas Village opens with a lighting ceremony and holds a drone light show on Saturday 19 December at 19:00.

Awaiting the 2026 date: Eleftheria Square. The municipality had not announced its lighting on 5 November. In 2025 the Eleftheria Square tree was lit on Sunday 23 November at 18:00, with a parade, concerts and a drone show, and the programme ran until Epiphany. Limassol

Four Seasons, Friday 13 November, 18:15. The Agios Tychonas hotel opens its festive season with a tree lighting ceremony.

Limassol Marina, Saturday 21 November. The island's best-known lighting. The Christmas on the Sea evening in Marina Square runs from 16:00 to 20:30: a charity Christmas market and children's craft workshop from 16:00, carols at 17:00, the 12-metre tree switched on by the Mayor of Limassol at about 17:45, Santa from 18:00 to 20:00 and the Christina Averkiou Band from 18:30. Tip: arrive by 17:00 for a view of the tree.

Kyperounta, Saturday 21 November. An elf parade and mascot show at 17:30, the village lighting at 18:00, and a drone light show on Sunday 20 December at 18:30. The village is about 1,300 metres up, so bring warm layers.

Awaiting the 2026 date: the municipality. In 2025 Limassol held its town lighting on Saturday 29 November at 18:00 at Grigoris Afxentiou Square, with an illumination ceremony along Anexartisias Street that drew big crowds.

Larnaca

Metropolis Mall, Friday 13 November, 17:30–20:30. Metropolis Mall and Alexander College switch on the mall's Christmas lights in the Grand Plaza area with an evening programme; the mall has a large free car park.

Larnaca Municipality, Saturday 28 November. The town lights its Christmas decorations on 28 November; the time and venue had not been announced on 5 November. In 2025 the lighting was at Europe Square on the Finikoudes seafront on 29 November at 17:30, and the mayor called Larnaca the island's most beautifully decorated town.

Paphos

Awaiting the 2026 date: Cap St Georges. The resort in Peyia usually lights a Christmas Village in the square by the church of Agios Georgios; check its website for the 2026 date.

Awaiting the 2026 date: Kennedy Square. In 2025 Paphos lit its town tree on Friday 28 November at 18:30 in Kennedy Square, with majorettes, antique cars, the municipal band and the Bus of Love, which then started its Christmas route.

Famagusta district

Paralimni, Sunday 22 November, 18:00. The town lights its tree with a free concert in Agios Georgios Square, the main church square; the evening is listed from 18:00 to 22:00, with a light show. Park outside the centre.

Awaiting the 2026 date: Ayia Napa. In 2025 Ayia Napa lit its central square on 22 November at 17:00 and Ayia Napa Marina followed on 29 November; Deryneia, Avgorou, Achna, Liopetri and Sotira held their own village lightings between 22 November and 7 December.

Supermarket and neighbourhood lightings

Smaller lightings fill the calendar too. In 2025, Alphamega held free tree lightings with Santa, face painting and treats at its Paphos Aphrodite, Engomi and Kapsalos stores on 22 November, and many municipalities and villages lit their own squares on the last weekends of November. These are often announced late, and none had been published for 2026 on 5 November. We add them to our events calendar as they appear.

Where to see the best lights

1. Limassol Marina. The 12-metre tree, the yachts and the seafront make it the most photogenic setting on the island. Combine it with a walk along the Molos promenade.
2. Larnaca seafront. Europe Square and the palm-lined Finikoudes promenade, best on a calm evening.
3. Nicosia old town. Eleftheria Square and the streets leading into the old town; Laiki Geitonia is lovely on foot.
4. Limassol's Anexartisias Street. The town's festive lights and crowds were centred here in 2025.
5. The mountain villages after dark. The nine Christmas Villages, from 21 November 2026 to 6 January 2027, light up their stone lanes; Kalopanagiotis and Kyperounta add drone shows on 19 and 20 December. See our Christmas Villages guide.
6. The malls. For small children on a wet evening, the Mall of Cyprus Christmas Market and Metropolis Mall are dry, easy options.

Tips for lighting nights

• Arrive early. The big lightings get crowded well before the switch-on, and roads next to the venue may be closed to traffic.
• Use the bus or park and walk. Town centres are busy on lighting nights; leave the car on the edge of the centre.
• Bring layers. Coastal evenings in late November are cool, and the mountain villages are close to freezing after dark.
• Bring cash for market stalls and kiosks.
