Tremithousa Area Guide: A Peaceful Village Between Paphos and Tala

Quick answer

Tremithousa is a small hillside village just north of Paphos, between Emba, Tala and Mesogi. It is quieter than its larger neighbours, with countryside and sea views and a mostly residential feel. It suits retirees and families who want calm surroundings within easy reach of town.

  • Just north of Paphos, about 10–15 minutes to the town centre and about 25 minutes to Paphos Airport.
  • Sits at around 270–290 m with wide views over the countryside and coast.
  • Smaller and quieter than neighbouring Tala and Emba, with a strong residential feel.
  • Known locally for honey and traditional farming.
  • Trade-off: very limited amenities in the village itself, so a car is essential.

What is Tremithousa like?

Tremithousa is a small village set between the mountains and the sea, on the hills just north of Paphos. Its name is thought to come from the terebinth tree, which once grew widely in the area, and the village has a long farming tradition. Today it is particularly known for its honey.

The village is mainly residential and noticeably quieter than its neighbours. A modest traditional core sits alongside newer villas and small developments, and much of the village enjoys open views across the countryside towards the coast.

Farming still shapes the landscape. Vineyards, citrus and almond trees and small vegetable plots surround the village, giving it a greener, more rural feel than the built-up areas closer to town. Evenings are calm, and the pace of life is unhurried. Because Tala, Emba and Paphos are so close, residents get this quiet setting without feeling cut off from shops, restaurants and services.

Where is Tremithousa and how do you get around?

Tremithousa lies between Emba, Tala and Mesogi, with the Agios Neophytos Monastery to the north and the main Paphos–Polis road running along its eastern side. Central Paphos is about 10–15 minutes away by car, Kato Paphos about 20 minutes, and the coast at Chloraka or Kissonerga about 10–15 minutes. Paphos Airport is about 25 minutes away.

Being next to the Polis road makes trips north towards Polis and the Akamas straightforward. Public transport is limited, and the village has few shops, so a car is essential for daily life. See our public transport guide for the wider network.

Who is Tremithousa best for?

  • Retirees looking for peace, views and space close to Paphos.
  • Families wanting a house with a garden in a calm setting.
  • Remote workers who need quiet and do not commute daily.
  • Not ideal for those wanting walkable amenities or an active social scene on the doorstep.

Homes and cost of living

Homes are mainly detached villas and bungalows, along with some traditional village houses and small, low-rise developments. Plots are often larger than in town.

Prices are broadly in line with other hill villages near Paphos, generally lower than seafront areas but comparable with Emba and Tala for similar homes. Sea-view properties command a premium.

Schools, healthcare and everyday amenities

Amenities within the village are limited, so most residents shop and use services in neighbouring Emba, Tala, Mesogi or Paphos itself, all a few minutes' drive away. Supermarkets, pharmacies, clinics and cafés are easy to reach.

Paphos General Hospital is the district's main public hospital. Our GESY guide explains how public healthcare works. For private and international schooling, see our international schools guide.
