  • Mostly villas and bungalows; a car is close to essential.
  • Trade-off: hilly roads and a short drive for anything beyond village basics.

What is Tala like?

Tala is a large village on the hills north of Paphos, sitting at an average altitude of around 280 m. It has grown considerably since the 1970s, from a small farming community into a residential village of villas, tourist complexes and family homes, while keeping a traditional core.

The heart of the village is its square, lined with tavernas, cafés and a pub. It is the social centre for both Cypriot residents and the sizeable expat community, mostly British, who have made Tala their permanent home. Views from much of the village stretch across farmland to the sea.

Where is Tala and how do you get around?

Tala lies about 8 km north of Paphos, with Emba to the south and the Agios Neophytos Monastery just above the village. Central Paphos is about 15 minutes away by car, Kato Paphos about 20 minutes, and the coast at Kissonerga or Chloraka about 15 minutes. Paphos Airport is roughly 25–30 minutes away.

There is a bus link to Paphos, but services are limited and the roads are steep and winding. Most residents drive. See our public transport guide for details.

Who is Tala best for?

  • Retirees who want an active, English-speaking social scene in a village setting.
  • Families who want space, gardens and a local primary school.
  • Remote workers who value views and quiet, with Paphos close enough for errands.
  • It is less suitable for anyone who wants to walk to the beach or live car-free.

Homes and cost of living

Housing is mainly detached villas and bungalows, many with pools, alongside townhouses, small complexes and some traditional village houses. Plots tend to be larger than in town.

Prices are mid-range to upper-mid for the Paphos villages. Homes with uninterrupted sea views or large plots sit at the higher end, while older properties can be better value. Overall, Tala is generally more affordable than seafront Paphos but not the cheapest village option.

Schools, healthcare and everyday amenities

The village has a kindergarten, a primary school, a GP, a dentist, a library, mini-markets and several eateries. Larger supermarkets, private clinics and Paphos General Hospital are a short drive away in town. Read our GESY guide for how public healthcare works.
