Coaching in Larnaca and Famagusta districts
In Larnaca district, clubs such as PadBox Club Larnaka in Livadia, Sveltos Padel Club in Oroklini and Alpha Padel Club take bookings on Playtomic, and on the east coast Kapparis Padel Club does the same. Coaching is not always advertised on these pages, so open the club's Playtomic page and look for classes or courses, or message the club and ask whether a coach works there, which days they teach and whether they run beginner groups.
Private or group lessons?
A private lesson is the quickest way to fix your grip, positioning and use of the walls. A small group session costs each player less and gets you used to playing with others. Many players start with a few private sessions, then move to group classes or coached social games.
What happens in a first padel lesson?
A first lesson is usually 60 minutes and assumes you have never played. A coach will normally cover:
- The grip. Most coaches teach the continental grip, which lets you play forehands, backhands and volleys without changing your hand.
- The ready position and footwork. Padel is about short steps and staying side-on, and new players coming from tennis often need to unlearn big swings.
- The serve. It is underarm: you bounce the ball behind the service line and hit it at or below waist height, diagonally into the opposite service box.
- The walls. The biggest difference from tennis. You learn to let the ball come off the back glass and play it on the way out, instead of rushing to hit it early.
- Positioning as a pair. You and your partner move up and back together, and most points are won at the net.
By the end of a few lessons most people can keep a rally going, which is the point where social games and Americanos become fun.
What should you bring to a lesson?
| Item | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Court or padel shoes | Courts are artificial grass with sand. Shoes with a herringbone or "omni" sole grip far better than running shoes and protect your ankles. |
| A racket (optional) | Most clubs rent rackets, so wait until you know which shape and weight suits you before buying. Round rackets are more forgiving for beginners. |
| Balls | Padel balls are slightly softer than tennis balls. Coaches usually bring a basket; for games, players often take turns to bring a new tube. |
| Water, cap and sun cream | Many courts in Cyprus are outdoors. From May to October, book early morning or evening slots. |
How do padel levels work?
Clubs and tournaments in Cyprus mostly use the levels shown in the Playtomic app, a scale from 0 to 7. You set a starting level when you create a profile by answering a few questions, and the app adjusts it as you play matches that count towards your level. Roughly, under 1.5 is a newcomer, around 2 to 3 is a social player who can rally and use the back wall, and 4 and above means competitive club play. When a club advertises a "beginner" or "high beginner" Americano, this is the scale it is talking about, so a coach can also help you choose a realistic starting level.
Can children learn padel in Cyprus?
Yes. In Paphos, Lime Padel Park in Geroskipou runs a children's padel school as well as adult coaching, according to its April 2026 opening announcement. The park also planned a children's playground of about 1,000 square metres, which makes it easier for families to spend time there.
Elsewhere, junior programmes are not always advertised online. Ask clubs that already run coaching, such as those in the table above, whether they offer junior groups, which ages they take and when sessions run. Most children's activities in Cyprus follow the school year, so September is the usual time to sign up. Our guide to after-school activities for kids in Cyprus covers how afternoon clubs work.
Which padel leagues and tournaments can you join?
| Competition | Who it's for | Where and when | Entry |
|---|---|---|---|
| Corporate Cyprus Padel League | Company teams, Beginner and Intermediate | Marcos Baghdatis Tennis Academy (Limassol) and La Casa De Padel (Nicosia); Wednesdays and Fridays, 30 September to 30 November 2026 | 2026 places full, with a waiting list; updates on Instagram @CorporateCyPadel |
| Cyprus Padel League (CPL) | Teams | First held in 2023; 16 teams played the 2024 finals | Ask your club about entering a team |
| Kerkida Padel Tournament | Beginner to advanced pairs, in men's and women's categories | Padel K, Limassol (May 2025); Social Padel Club, Nicosia (September 2025) | Registration via Playtomic |
| Masterball Series (Endo Sports) | Teams | Three-day events on four to six courts, now with around 220 teams per tournament | Contact the organisers |
| Club Americanos | Social players by level | Clubs such as Padel Syndicate, Limassol | Listed at €25 to €50 on Playtomic (at the time of writing, October 2026) |
How do the corporate leagues work?
The Corporate Cyprus Padel League's 2026 season has 40 teams and 140 players, up from 27 teams and 104 players in its first year. Each set won earns a point, so even a 2–1 defeat counts, and the top two teams in each category and city reach the finals. Prizes include cash of up to €500 per category. If your company wants to take part next year, follow the league's Instagram account for registration news.
What is an Americano?
An Americano is a social format in which partners rotate after each short match and individual points are added up. Because you play with different people, it's one of the easiest ways to meet players at your level. Clubs list them on Playtomic, usually by level, such as beginner or high beginner.
How do you sign up for a tournament or Americano?
- Create a Playtomic profile and set your level honestly.
- Follow the clubs near you. Their tournaments, Americanos and classes appear on each club's page, usually a week or two ahead.
- Pick an event at your level and check the format, the start time and whether the entry fee includes balls or drinks.
- Register on your own or as a pair. Americanos take individual entries; most tournaments need a partner. Pay in the app.
- Arrive 15 minutes early to warm up and hear the rules, which can vary from one organiser to the next.
Rules worth knowing before your first match
Padel uses tennis scoring (15, 30, 40, game), but many amateur events in Cyprus play a deciding point at deuce so games don't drag on, and Americanos often score by total points instead of games. The ball must bounce once on your side before it touches a wall; you may then play it off the glass, but a ball that hits the glass or the fence on the opponents' side before bouncing is out. If you're unsure, ask the organiser at the start: they would much rather explain than settle arguments later.
Does Cyprus have a national padel team?
Yes. The Cyprus Tennis Federation presented the first national men's and women's padel teams in July 2025, ahead of the FIP Euro Padel Cup in Madrid. In August 2026 padel was included in the Cyprus delegation for the Mediterranean Games in Taranto for the first time, with men's, women's and mixed teams. The Cyprus Olympic Committee says padel comes under the Cyprus Tennis Federation.
Tips for choosing a coach or league
- Be honest about your level. Most tournaments and Americanos are split by level, and the right group makes games more fun.
- Ask about a trial. Before paying for a block of lessons, ask whether you can try one session first.
- Check the time of year. In summer, book early-morning or evening sessions to avoid the heat; the corporate league runs in autumn.
- Look for a club near home or work. Regular practice matters more than the venue.
