Quick answer
Padel is a doubles racket sport played on an enclosed court about 20 by 10 metres, and it has become one of the fastest-growing sports in Cyprus since the first courts opened at a Paphos resort. There are now clubs in every district, from Padel Syndicate in Limassol and the GCS Sports Centre in Nicosia to Lime Padel Park in Geroskipou and PadBox in Livadia, and most of them take bookings through the Playtomic app. Court-hire prices were not published on the club pages we checked in October 2026, so check the rate when you book.
- Cyprus has around 250 padel courts in about 80 clubs (Padelnomics, October 2026).
- Padel is usually played 2 vs 2, uses tennis scoring and an underarm serve, and the walls are part of play.
- Most clubs in Cyprus take bookings and payment through the Playtomic app; a few use their own systems.
- Larger clubs include Padel Syndicate in Limassol (six courts), PadBox Club Larnaka in Livadia (six courts) and Lime Padel Park in Geroskipou (six courts).
- None of the club pages we checked published court-hire prices at the time of writing (October 2026).
- Many clubs rent rackets, so you can try the sport before buying any equipment.
Padel has gone from a handful of resort courts to clubs in every district of Cyprus in only a few years. Here is what the sport is, where you can play, how booking works and what you need to get started.
What is padel?
Padel is a racket sport that is usually played in doubles (2 vs 2) on an enclosed court 20 metres long and 10 metres wide, with walls of glass or brick and mesh fencing. The ball can bounce off the walls, which keeps rallies going. Scoring is the same as tennis, often with a "golden point" at deuce. You serve underarm after letting the ball bounce, hitting it at or below waist height into the diagonal service box.
Rackets are solid and perforated, with no strings, and the ball looks like a tennis ball but has lower pressure. Players wear a short safety cord around the wrist.
Why is padel so popular in Cyprus?
According to Cyprus Mail, the first padel courts on the island were at Aphrodite Hills in Paphos. Spazio Health and Leisure Club in Nicosia set up courts in 2021, and for around 18 months it was the only club running casual games, with players travelling in from Paphos, Paralimni, Limassol and Larnaca. By mid-2024 the paper counted 17 clubs: seven in Nicosia, four in Limassol, three in Famagusta district, two in Larnaca and one in Paphos. Many more have opened since.
The sport is social, quick to learn and easy to organise with friends, and its competitive side is growing. Cyprus national padel teams played their first European championship in Madrid in July 2025, presented by the Cyprus Tennis Federation. Our guide to padel lessons, leagues and tournaments covers that side.
How do you book a court?
Most clubs in Cyprus use Playtomic, an app and website where you pick a club, court and time and pay online. Some venues run their own systems. Aphrodite Hills, for example, takes bookings online or by email at reservations.sports@aphroditehills.com while it moves to a new booking system. Ayia Napa Marina's court sends you an entry code after booking, which opens the door and turns on the lights.
How much does padel cost in Cyprus?
None of the club pages we checked published court-hire prices at the time of writing (October 2026). You'll see the current rate when you book, or you can ask the club. As a guide to event costs, social Americano events listed on Padel Syndicate's Playtomic page had entry fees of €25 to €50. Nicosia Padel Club has offered sessions of 60, 90 or 120 minutes, so check the slot length as well as the price.

What equipment do you need?
For your first few games, all you need is comfortable sportswear, water and court shoes. Many clubs rent rackets, and some sell balls on site. If you buy a racket later, ask the coach or club shop which shape and weight suit your level. In summer, book early morning or evening slots and take plenty of water, especially on outdoor courts.
What is padel etiquette?
- Arrive 10 minutes early and leave the court on time for the next group.
- Agree in advance who brings balls and how you'll split the court fee.
- Call your own side's faults honestly, and don't walk behind a court while a point is being played.
- When you join a game with new people, be honest about your level so the match is fun for everyone.
Tips for beginners
- Take a lesson or a beginner game. Positioning and the use of the walls are easier to learn with a coach.
- Play doubles. It's the standard format and much less tiring than singles.
- Let the ball come off the back wall. New players often hit too early; waiting gives you more time.
- Join social events. Americanos rotate partners, so they're a good way to meet players. Our guide to building a social network in Cyprus has more ideas.
What to do next
Download Playtomic, pick a club near you and book a beginner session or lesson. For more on staying active, see our guide to outdoor sports in Cyprus, and if you're choosing where to live, look at our district guides for Limassol, Nicosia and Larnaca.
