Erimi Area Guide: Wine-Country Living Near Kolossi

Quick answer

Erimi and neighbouring Kolossi are villages west of Limassol, surrounded by vineyards, citrus groves and some of the district's best-known historic sites. They offer a relaxed village pace and more space for the money than the city, and suit families, retirees and anyone who wants to live between Limassol and Paphos.

  • Villages west of Limassol; Kolossi is about 14 km from the city and the centre is roughly 15–20 minutes' drive.
  • Rural setting with vineyards, Kolossi Castle and the Cyprus Wine Museum on the doorstep.
  • Suits families, retirees and people working at the British bases or in western Limassol.
  • Close to the motorway; buses are limited, so a car is essential.
  • Main trade-offs: car dependence, fewer amenities and very hot summers inland.

What is Erimi like?

Erimi is a village west of Limassol, right next to Kolossi, and the two are often considered together when people look for homes. Since the 2024 local government reform, both have been municipal districts of the new Kourion Municipality, alongside Ypsonas and Episkopi. Part of Erimi lies within the British Sovereign Base Area of Akrotiri.

This is wine country with a long history. Erimi has given its name to several prehistoric archaeological sites and is home to the Cyprus Wine Museum, on the old Limassol–Paphos road. Next door, Kolossi Castle was the headquarters of the Knights of St John, whose sweet wine became today's Commandaria. Around the old village centres, newer homes, small developments and farmland create a relaxed, semi-rural feel.

Where is Erimi and how do you get around?

Who is Erimi best for?

  • Families who want a house with a garden and a calmer pace than the city.
  • Retirees who like village life and countryside views.
  • People working at the British bases at Episkopi and Akrotiri, or in western Limassol.
  • Commuters to Paphos, as the villages sit between the two towns.

Students and those who want nightlife or walkable cafés will probably prefer living in Limassol itself.

Homes and cost of living

Housing includes detached villas, bungalows and family houses, often with gardens, plus low-rise apartment complexes, townhouses and some traditional village homes. New developments have appeared on the edges of both villages.

Erimi and Kolossi are generally more affordable than Limassol city and the eastern coastal suburbs, offering more space for the money. Prices have risen as more people move west of Limassol, and homes close to the sea or with views cost more. Day-to-day costs are moderate, though most households spend more on fuel.

Schools, healthcare and everyday amenities

The villages have supermarkets, bakeries, pharmacies, coffee shops and tavernas, with larger shops a short drive away in Ypsonas and Limassol. Public primary schools are available locally, while most private and international schools are in or around Limassol; see our guide to international schools in Cyprus.

Limassol General Hospital in Kato Polemidia is about 20 minutes' drive away, and there are local doctors and clinics nearby. Our GESY guide explains the public health system.
