Quick answer
Since 6 July 2026 non-EU nationals can renew certain Cyprus residence permits online through the gov.cy service "Renewal of residence permits for third-country nationals", using a verified CY Login account. The service covers renewals only (employment, domestic work, Companies of Foreign Interest staff, some family reunification and long-term residents). You still visit a service point in person for biometrics and to collect the permit.
- The online renewal service launched on 6 July 2026 and covers renewals only, not first applications.
- It covers employment, domestic work, Companies of Foreign Interest staff, some family reunification permits and long-term residents.
- You need a verified CY Login account; employers and authorised representatives can also apply.
- Fees are paid online after the application is reviewed; biometrics and collection are still in person.
- Apply at least one month before your permit expires.
Since July 2026, many non-EU residents no longer need to queue to hand in renewal paperwork. This guide explains who can use the new online renewal service, how it works, and which steps still need a visit in person.
What is the online residence permit renewal service?
On 6 July 2026 the Deputy Ministry of Migration and International Protection launched an online service called Renewal of residence permits for third-country nationals on gov.cy. You fill in the form, upload documents, track progress and pay fees online. Then you choose a service point for the parts that still need you there in person.
The service is for renewals only. First-time applications still follow the normal process; see our residency permits guide.
Which permits can be renewed online?
As of October 2026, the service covers temporary residence permits for:
- Remunerated (salaried) employment
- Domestic employment
- Employees of Companies of Foreign Interest
- Family reunification of family members of long-term residents and of Companies of Foreign Interest employees
It also covers long-term resident permits. The government has said more categories may be added later.
Which permits are not covered (yet)?
Visitor permits (Category F, often called the "pink slip"), student permits, digital nomad permits and first applications of any kind are not covered. Renew these through the usual Migration Department process.
EU and UK citizens: This service doesn't apply to you. EU citizens' registration certificates don't expire. UK citizens under the Withdrawal Agreement renew MUKW cards separately; see our UK citizens after Brexit guide.
Who can submit the application?
- The permit holder
- The employer, for employment-based permits
- An authorised representative, such as a law or accounting firm. The authorisation is submitted or managed through the platform.
What do you need before you start?
| Item | Why |
|---|---|
| Verified CY Login account | Required to access the service |
| Current residence permit details | To identify the permit being renewed |
| Valid passport (and copy) | If you have a new passport, have your old one or a copy as well |
| Supporting documents for your category | For example an employment contract, proof of health cover and proof of accommodation. Check the list for your category on gov.cy |
| Certified translations | For any document not in Greek or English |
| Payment card | Fees are paid online after review |
The official page has the document list for each category. Requirements differ, so check yours rather than relying on a general list.
How to renew online: step by step
1. Set up and verify CY Login
Register for CY Login and complete verification before you start. An unverified account can't submit the application.
2. Open the renewal service
Search gov.cy for "Renewal of residence permits for third-country nationals" and log in.
3. Fill in the application and upload documents
Complete the form and attach every required document. Incomplete applications are the main cause of delays.
4. Track your application
Watch for status updates and requests for extra documents, and reply quickly.
5. Pay the fees
Once the application has been reviewed, you'll be asked to pay the fees online. The amount depends on your category; the official page shows the current fees.
6. Choose a service point and attend for biometrics
Select the office where you'll give your photo, fingerprints and signature, and later collect your permit. Bring your passport.
When should you apply?
The Migration Department advises applying at least one month before your current permit expires. Applying earlier is safer, especially if documents from abroad need translating. While your application is pending, proof that you submitted it shows you applied in time. It is not the same as a valid permit, though, so plan travel carefully.
How long does it take?
The government says the system should reduce delays, but no official processing time has been published. Allow several weeks, more if extra documents are requested.
Common problems
- CY Login not verified. Verify your account first; it is the most common reason people can't get started.
- Wrong category. If your permit type isn't listed, the online service won't accept it. Use the paper route.
- Employer changes. Most employment permits are tied to one employer. A renewal won't cover a change of job, which needs its own approval.
- Expired passport. Renew your passport before your permit if it is close to expiry.
What to do next
- Check the category on your current permit card.
- Set up and verify CY Login.
- Put a reminder in your calendar two months before your permit expires.
- Changing jobs? Read our guide to getting a work permit in Cyprus.

Frequently asked questions
Can I renew my Cyprus residence permit online?
Yes, if your permit is in one of the covered categories: employment, domestic work, Companies of Foreign Interest staff, family reunification for their families or long-term residents' families, or long-term resident. Other permits are still renewed on paper.
Can I renew a pink slip (visitor permit) online?
Not as of October 2026. Visitor (Category F) permits, student and digital nomad permits are not part of the online service yet, so renew them through the usual process.
Do I still have to go to the immigration office?
Only for biometrics (photo, fingerprints and signature) and to collect your permit. You choose the service point online.
When should I apply to renew my residence permit?
